For years, I struggled to get a good night’s sleep. The kind of sleep that leaves you feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to conquer the day. Sleep had always been elusive for me, but that all changed when I joined Thrive and decided to make sleep my top priority.
I’m a morning person, and I cherish those early hours before the world wakes up. I wanted to make the most of that time, so I started by committing to an earlier bedtime. I also integrated a new habit into my evening routine – shutting down all electronic devices at least 15-30 minutes before bedtime. No more late-night laptop browsing or scrolling through my phone in bed.
At first, it was a challenge to break those habits, but I took it one step at a time. I moved my phone further away from my bed, face down, and put it on silent mode. I replaced the TV in my bedroom with moments of gratitude and affirmations until I drifted off to sleep. It took some adjustment, but the newfound stillness allowed me to embrace the quiet and restorative power of sleep.
Mornings became a sacred time for me. I started the day with moments of gratitude, affirmations, and prayer. I made my bed, brushed my teeth, drank a glass of water, and put on a pot of coffee – all before picking up my phone. This morning routine grounded me and set a positive tone for the day ahead.
The impact of better sleep was profound. I found myself more focused, intentional, and present throughout the day. My interactions with family, friends, and colleagues became more meaningful, and my overall well-being improved – mind, body, and spirit.
Thrive not only helped me prioritize sleep but also provided a supportive community. I learned the importance of intention when connecting with and motivating my team at work. Understanding the intention behind our actions has strengthened our bonds and fostered a sense of purpose.
While I’ve been on a well-being journey for over 25 years, I am now focusing on rekindling and deepening connections with my loved ones. The loss of my mother reminded me of the importance of cherishing those around us. Love and support make life’s challenges more manageable and our achievements more meaningful.
I’ve also faced challenges with my physical well-being. With a background in yoga, running, and triathlons, my body started sending signals that it needed a change. I listened to my body and sought guidance from experts to find activities that still brought joy and challenge without causing harm. The journey included new yoga pose variations, tennis, long walks, and incorporating rest days into my routine.
Thrive’s app has been instrumental in keeping me accountable and motivated. The app’s wellness community allows us to share progress updates and inspire one another to make positive changes. It has become a valuable tool on my well-being journey.
